Intercultural Communications

From culture as an ICEBERG to culture as a TOOLKIT

CULTURE:

Shared

Norms and values, beliefs and ethics, determines what is perceived as good or wrong behavior.

Being

Homogeneous/Unitary/Integrated/Whole/Bounded

Patterns

Sets the norms implicit/explicit of the behavior. What is said externally and what is hidden in the non spoken words.

Understanding

The differences between my culture and the other´s culture can give new light into the interaction.

CULTURE - COMMUNITY - CONTEXT

We can not expect to go back to a place expecting that it is going to be the same. Everything changes, mostly ….. Ourselves.

Being aware of the differences between our perceptions of reality, context and our background, we can have a more assertive approach to a certain community, then bring a story that can feel as theirs, and not be alienated of their culture.
